Guyana Opens Annual Energy Conference, Showcasing Bold Vision and Global Partnerships
GEORGETOWN – The Government of Guyana officially opened its fifth annual Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo on February 17, 2026, with His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali declaring that the nation is not “sleepwalking into the future” but boldly engineering a model of development that converts energy wealth into sustainable prosperity.

The Conference, themed “Building Tomorrow’s Future Today,” runs February 17–20, 2026 at the Guyana Marriott Hotel Georgetown and has drawn delegates from more than 30 countries, reaffirming Guyana’s expanding role in the global energy landscape as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Key highlights centered on President Ali’s five strategic pillars for leveraging the oil and gas sector: strengthening energy security, building resilient food systems, driving economic diversification, creating sustainable jobs, and expanding infrastructure.

Major infrastructure announcements included the nearing-completion Gas-to-Energy Project at Wales expected to halve electricity costs, plans for a second gas pipeline to Berbice with potential partnership with Suriname, a new deep-water port to bolster trade with Brazil, and revived efforts on the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project.

Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips declared Guyana “open for sustainable business,” while Senior Minister Dr Ashni Singh highlighted that Guyana has accumulated savings in its sovereign wealth fund sufficient to cover the country’s total external debt within five years of oil production, while simultaneously quadrupling the size of the domestic economy. The Caribbean Development Bank highlighted opportunities for submarine cable interconnections to link island grids into regional power pools.

The International Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo aims to forge strategic international partnerships, attract investment, promote local content and supply chain integration, and ensure that Guyana’s oil wealth translates into sustainable infrastructure and long-term prosperity.
